HOW WE ALLOCATE YOUR DONATIONS

Africa's wildlife is disappearing at an alarming pace. Commercial poaching, snaring. Decreased and fragmented habitat leading to more human/wildlife conflicts and deadly encounters on both sides. There are often ways in which these issues can be mitigated by funding communities around the wildlife to believe in the living value of their indigenous wildlife. But these programs are lacking finances. This is where Over and Above Africa is most effective, and where we provide the much needed funding that larger wildlife organizations miss.

COVID19 made the situation much worse with the lock downs and lack of revenues from tourism. Fewer tourists meant fewer eyes on the endangered wildlife that needs protection. Rangers were let go due to reduced revenue from parks and game reserves, and the results were disastrous to wildlife. Poaching has now resumed at an alarming rate.

We are currently in the 6th Greatest Extinction - the first ever to be entirely man-made. Endangered species, such as elephants, rhinos, cheetahs, leopards, pangolins, giraffes and lions, have lost over 90% of their habitat in the last century and as a species. They are in danger of disappearing altogether, within our lifetime.

We have the power to turn it around, but to do so, we will ALL have to contribute to their survival.

When we understand the complicated threads that lead to poaching on the ground, a kinder picture emerges.  It’s important to embrace the communities that are directly impacted by these wild animals. When we help one, we help all! As Over and Above Africa’s global community grows, so can our outreach. We support initiatives that collectively help wildlife, people, organizations and initiatives on the frontlines.

It’s a matter of perspective. Poverty and hunger leave room for exploitation from crime syndicates to step in and offer enormous sums to locals, which can literally mean the difference between life and death for a family. How can we ask a local community to care for an elephant, when they can't put food on the table?

With your help we can empower those communities through furthering education, enhancing skills, supplying; tools, equipment, clean water, food and shelter.
